Met Sal Glesser at the Spyderco exhibit. He's quite a balisong artist himself. He recounted for me that Spyderco did not start out selling knives but rather knife sharpeners. They used Bali-Song butterfly knives to add color to their demonstrations at shows. Mr. Glesser told me about his extensive Bali-Song and butterfly knife collection, mostly latchless.

When asked if Spyderco might attempt a balisong product he said he wanted to do that, yes, but that he didn't want to just do another me-to product. He was searching for a design that would be something new. He said that he was looking into it by has no definite plans at this time.

That's the word, straight from the top.

Now, on the other hand, I heard several rummors in the hall that Spyderco had solicited balisong designs from a couple of designers. Those are unsubstantiated rummors. We'll see.
