On loan from the growing collection of a good friend of mine.
The first two feature flat, chisel-ground, Tanto-style blades with bead-blasted finishes The handles are sandwich-style construction with canvas micarta scales. Both are latchless. One is black and the other is a wonderful black/brown. Mr. Guinn uses a double-tang-pin design. These first two use roll-pins As you can see, this is serial number 001, Mr. Guinn's first published balisong knife. The brown/black one is number 002. Together, they form a wonderful set. Collectors very much like to have the early works of an upcoming artist. These are not, however, Mr. Guinn's first knives. No. He's been making knives since the early 1980s and selling them professionally since 1990. Mr. Guinn's father was a master machinist, so it's not surprising to see Terry make complex knives with precision and quality. The second pair have steel handles and polished blades The smaller one is latchless, but the larger features a reversible latch. Both have double tang pins made with solid pins and both feature sandwich-style construction.
What a great bowie blade. The utility is nice too. Both have hollow-ground blades. I know what I'd do if these knives were part of my collection: Mr.Guinn makes a wide variety of knives including fixed-blades and conventional folders in a variety of styles. His prices are quite reasonable. A typical balisong is about $300. Prices, of course, vary with materials and design options. His lead time is typically 3-6 months.
