Lakandula

A Custom Balisong by Pabu Knife

The elegant and functional clip is also Ray Coon Raindrop Damascus. Notice the extra bit of file work on the clip. The clip is fastened to the handle by more Swiss-made screws. The Pabu-signature L-Latch is made of Jim Ferguson Damascus Steel. Very often, Damascus is wasted on latches because latches are so small that you hardly see any pattern. But Mr. Ferguson's Damascus has a very fine pattern and Pabu has carefully selected the perfect piece so that even the small latch becomes special. Balisong artists have a love/hate relationship with latches. On one hand, latches lock the knife open or closed. But, on the other hand, a loose latch flopping around can get in the way during manipulation. To allow easy manipulation of this knife, Pabu has equipped the latch with a gentle spring and detent mechanism that gently holds the latch in the open position. The spring-loaded mechanism is built inside the handle with a watchmaker's precision (and don't forget that the handles are made of solid titanium), but the detent on the end of the latch can be seen This picture also shows just how perfectly the carved inserts match the mating carving in the handles. If the knife is to bear Rajah Lakandula's name, then perfection must abound. Depending on your monitor, that picture is probably three to six times the actual size of the knife. What you're looking at is quite a magnified view. Even magnified three- to six-times, even magnified ten- to twenty-times if you click on that picture to see the larger version, everything is perfect. Even imperfections far to small to be seen by the naked eye are not allowed. If this is to be a king's knife, then that has to be true.
