The Spyderco Szabofly

Spyderco doesn't make "novelty knives." All Spyderco knives are serious, working knives. Many Spyderco knives are specifically designed with martial arts use in mind. The Szabofly, like it's older brother the Spyderfly, is a serious knife that will function nicely for utility purposes and which is thoroughly designed for the martial artist and self-defense.

In a world full of symmetric balisongs, including the Spyderfly, the Szabofly is different in just about every way. The two handles are shaped differently and weighted differently. The blade is completely asymmetric. And yet none of this was done just to be unconventional. On the Szabofly, form (and weight distribution) follows function.

It's rare to see my hand in the pictures on this site. But yet there are several such pictures in this article. I think that just about says it all. What makes the Szabofly special is not how it looks, but how it fits in your hand.

Of course, it looks pretty good too.

The Spyderfly currently streets for about $75-80. I expect the Szabofly to fall into about the same price range. It's an excellent knife value, which is what Spyderco is famous for delivering.
